In this month’s update we have a number of exciting online and regional gatherings, including a prayer meeting, a CAKE network event for science-faith communicators, and the Worcester “Planet Narnia” series. We also have our hybrid 2026 CiS Annual Conference, “Enjoying Science,” taking place in Swindon this October with a diverse panel of expert speakers.
CiS activities
CiS Prayer meeting: Monday 14th September, 7pm online
As Christians in the sciences, we know that our work and our faith are deeply intertwined. We’d love for you to join our next prayer gathering as we lift up our CiS community.
We’ll be praying specifically for our upcoming projects, our volunteers, and the Church at large. We also want to take time to pray for scientists everywhere – for their integrity, their discoveries, and their unique calling.
CAKE meeting for Science and Faith Communicators: Friday 18th September, 11am online
Are you working in science-faith engagement? Welcome to CAKE – the network designed to bring science-Christianity communicators together. CAKE exists to ensure that no one in this field works in isolation. We are a diverse collective of specialists who collaborate to provide the Church with excellent scientific resources for the modern world.
Through the Wardrobe Door – “Planet Narnia” series: The Science and Faith Worcester group invite you to join them on Tuesday 15th September for “Planet Narnia”, the first of a series of three talks, “Through the Wardrobe Door”, in which they will explore the science and theology themes that C S Lewis wrote into the Narnia series. This term’s talks will take place at St. Paul’s Church (St. Paul’s Street, Worcester WR1 2BH) – doors open from 7.30pm, with an 8pm start. Enjoying Science CiS Annual Conference 2026: 23rd – 24th October, Bath Road Methodist Church, Swindon
Come and join us as we gather for fellowship, learning, and reflection at our Annual Conference. Our theme this year is “Enjoying Science.” Together, we will explore the latest scientific advancements across a range of fields, reflect on what it means to be Christians in the sciences, and rejoice in God’s gift of science to all creation.
Our conferences provide a unique space to hear from leading scientists, theologians, and experts engaged in the dialogue between scientific discovery and Christian belief. Running from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon, the program features a diverse lineup of speakers and formats, with plenty of opportunities to network and get to know one another.
This is a hybrid event – available both online and onsite.

The “Foundations” Conference is a dedicated space for early‑career researchers exploring the rich, complex intersections between scientific inquiry and religious thought. This event provides an intellectually supportive environment where emerging scholars can develop foundational skills, exchange ideas, and engage critically with the theoretical and practical dimensions of the field. This conference explores the dynamic and sometimes contested borders between scientific understanding and religious interpretation, asking how these two influential domains shape – and are shaped by – one another in contemporary thought and practice.
As scientific knowledge expands and religious traditions continue to evolve, questions emerge about where boundaries should be drawn, how they shift, and what happens when they overlap. This conference examines these issues through interdisciplinary lenses, bringing together voices from theology, philosophy, history, the natural and social sciences, and professional practice. By focusing on the boundaries of theory and practice, this event aims not only to map the current landscape of science and religion studies but also to empower the next generation of scholars to shape its future.

A prayer for the new academic year
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Lord, as this new academic year begins, guide our minds and grant us wisdom to approach every challenge with peace and purpose. Help us to trust in Your direction each day, knowing that You are faithfully leading our steps. Amen
