British Science Week is taking place from Friday 6 – Sunday 15 March 2026. To help you, your church or local group, we have created a series of short prayers to use to help pray for different parts of our scientific community. Prayers
The Bible celebrates creation from Genesis to Revelation. Psalm 19:1 says “The heavens declare the glory of God!” We use the techniques of science to explore the world, learn how to look after it, and improve our lives. This week, the aim is to celebrate science, technology, engineering and maths through events and individual activities.
Pray for British Science Week
Heavenly Father, please help everyone involved in celebrating STEM activities during British Science Week, and those attending them. Let it also be a celebration of your creation, an exploration of the questions of meaning and purpose that arise from science, and an investigation into how science can be done well and ethically.
Pray for scientific research
Father God, we pray for everyone working in scientific research in this country, in universities, research institutes and companies. Help them to do excellent work that advances knowledge and reveals the wonder of your creation. Bless those who turn discoveries into new technologies. Help them to produce things that improve the lives of all people, and further our calling to care for creation.
Pray for regulation and funding
We pray for the regulation and funding of scientific research. Guide all those involved in the many stages of approving and overseeing research and its outcomes. We pray for those making decisions about who should be given funding, and what projects should go ahead. Help your church to have a voice in encouraging responsible exploration of your creation.
Pray for education
Father, please help teachers, and all those involved at every level of education, to have what they need to inspire young people to appreciate and enjoy science, technology, engineering and maths – and to train the next generation of researchers. Please bless the young people who study these subjects. Help them to be equipped to understand and take an interest in science, and especially those who can go on into a career in STEM. Help us, your church, to encourage teachers and young people, so that the next generations can do even more to explore and take care of your world.
Pray for science and faith organisations
Please bless the organisations that serve the church as we engage with science, helping us to fuel our worship with exciting discoveries about your amazing creation, to explore the big questions that we have about science and faith, think about ethical issues and encourage the STEM researchers, educators and students in our midst.
